Get on the good foot and mark the time with the lively music of Toups Bebey's
last fantasy : THE SPIRIT PAN-AFRICAN BRASS COMPANY.
The experienced saxophone player from Cameroon who is also a
multi-instrumentalist, a composer an arranger, and the leader of the famous
PARIS AFRICANS, has been fond of street parades since childhood. Today he
brings together with supreme Caribbean trombone player Pierre Chabrèle an
audacious variable geometry African brass band.
Basically this is a 7 musician combo - all of them world music big shots
stemming from the everywhere African and Caribbean territories who can play
all kinds of horns and all kinds of percussions, ... for all kinds of feet !
The music plays its dues to African chants and rhythms so involved it is in
the tradition of the Makossa, High-Life, and Biguine, but it also goes
forward with original compositions that keep displaying the colours of a
spectrum that relies on another perception of the African pulse.
THE SPIRIT PAN-AFRICAN BRASS COMPANY is also the popular expression of the
black brass bands (seldom seen under these latitudes) that characterize the
carnivals, parades, processions and all the important moments in the life of
the society.
The brass bands, the streets' self expression, were celebrated in their due
time by the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Just get on any
foot and discover the rare incandescence the jubilation and the fantastic
symbiosis of THE SPIRIT PAN-AFRICAN BRASS COMPANY.

This here is coming on planet Techno a new third kind style stamped signature
gushed out from the contemporary South of Real: "PACT", the Pan African
Cosmic Tone !
The techno aficionados can only rejoice ; Toups Bebey and his musical galaxy
playfully re-invent a (neo)marronism by inserting the circle and the
(ascending) spiral in this mainly verticals and horizontals controled
universe.
The incommensurable cultural resources of the African continent easily
complete this further mission, as usual. In the different tracks of this
all-round musician and composer, direct-to-disk, midi, synthesizers, samplers
and...moods frame and sequence the sounds and live beats of the percussions,
pygmy flutes, mouth bows, kalimbas...and the saxophones of course! All these
contribute in the rounding off of the angles of the computer programmings,
not merely as pure tones do, but rather as instruments that are being played
by a musician capable of insufflating the Africans' number one quality and
most valuable treasure : life !
The trip spreads, both dancefloor and human: acid-jazz sweat, jungle fever,
trances of life and visions of the ecstasic beyond included.
